Comex 5513 Submrainer with Early Logo dial and provenance

The Comex diving company in the south of France played an integral part in the development of the Rolex dive watch line up and as a mark of that relationship the company divers were issued with Rolex watches...often carrying the Comex company logo on the dial as well as unique case back engravings. Comex issued Rolex pieces are highly desirable and valuable pieces forming a key part of any collection.

Far rarer than the model 5514 , the 5513 with helium escape valve made for Comex in the early 1970's is a true connoisseurs piece.

Following experiments with Comex in the late 60's these first delivery watches were the first to 'go deep' in the Comex workplace and put the helium escape valve to the test.

The early log 5513 were supplied with what would turn out to be our very first glimpse of what we now call the ''pre comex'' or smudge crown dial and show the application of a logo with smaller less pronounced serifs

Approximately 450 x 5514 models were supplied to Comex most with Logo dials, where as only approximately 300 x 5513 models were delivered and probably less than 1/3 are equipped with logo dials with the vast majority being the later square font logo dial that was retrofitted in the early 1980's and VERY VERY few have the first supply dial like this.

Accompanied by everything you would want or hope for the watch came direct from the original owner diver, and is accompanied by a signed testimony of his dive career, log book extracts, and even the come purchase receipt in his name where he purchased the watch from Comex. The watch is also accompanied by a letter from Mr Henry Hudson of Rolex Uk confirming the delivery of the watch to the Comex company and confirming the delivery number .
