The Comex diving company in the south of France played an integral part in the development of the Rolex dive watch line up and as a mark of that relationship the company divers were issued with Rolex watches...often carrying the Comex company logo on the dial as well as unique case back engravings. Comex issued Rolex pieces are highly desirable and valuable pieces forming a key part of any collection. This model on offer is from the select group of models assigned a unique reference number by Rolex and supplied exclusively to Comex. It is for all intents and purposes a standard 5513 model submariner, but with an added helium escape valve, something never available to the public.
This watch is from the first batch of so called 'big number' watches and for me this represents the best of the 5514's....deep big numbers, straight Comex engraving across the back like the early style watches and unlike other big number batches a complete serial number inside the case back and, most importantly, the 700-750 batch have clean sharp dials, which is unlike many of the later big number watches that look like the luminous material was applied by a blind cobbler on a Friday afternoon after a liquid lunch.
This example has been left in as found condition direct from the Comex diver but can upon request be Rolex serviced before delivery.
